F-DISEC

Under Secretary General: Doruk Sapmaz

Under Secretary General: Kaan Muştu

The United Nations Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) was created as the first of the UN’s Main Committees when the UN Charter was signed in 1945. Because of this, DISEC is also known as the First Committee. DISEC was set up to provide countries with a space to discuss issues related to peace and security. According to the UN Charter, DISEC’s role in the General Assembly is to help set “general principles of cooperation in the maintenance of international peace and security,” including disarmament and arms control.

Technological advances have now reached such a level that almost all conceivable devices are constructed with structures so small that they cannot be viewed even with traditional microscopes. This development, known as nanotechnology, has been a major advancement, bringing both benefits and harm to humanity. The arms strategies of states are now based almost exclusively on this technology, posing a major threat on a global scale. At this DISEC session, delegates gathered to produce solutions to create a political framework against the proliferation of this armament and to save humanity from this great threat.
