“Deus Vult!”
Popes, Crusades, Endless Wars, Race of sovereignty in Jerusalem and Anatolia…
All combined in Clermont Council. Everyone had a specific purpose: to restore Christianity to its former glory.
Clermont Council was called after the urgent call of the Byzantine Empire caused by rise and expansion of the Moslem, the threat of Seljukians in Anatolia, the loss of Jerusalem and the will of advancing the economic power of Europe. Pope Urban II called the Council of Clermont in 1095 with the primary goal of restoring sovereignty in Anatolia and Jerusalem and terminating the presence of Muslims in the region.
This council was formed at the earliest possible stage of the First Crusade, before any formal declaration of war. The representatives which will be clergies, nobles', or papals would not only decide whether conflict would occur, but also how it would be conducted. Through crisis mechanics, the representatives would shape the foundations of the crusade: its goals, leadership structure, funding sources, religious legitimacy, relations with the Byzantine Empire, and the rules governing warfare and the treatment of civilians.
Every directive passed and every decision made will directly influence how future events unfold. There is no predetermined path; military strategies, political alliances, and even the moral framework of war will emerge from the actions. What begins as a theological debate can rapidly escalate into large-scale mobilization, internal dissent, or unexpected alliances. By combining high-paced crisis decision-making processes with profound historical, legal, and ethical debates, this council offers representatives a unique opportunity to intervene at a time when history has not yet been decided.
Possible final document's content and structure will be determined by the outcomes of the representatives’ final campaign actions and the overall situation at the end of the council by a treaty.
